This ain’t your grandma’s rice crispy treat. This is the rice crispy treat of all rice crispy treat in my opinioin. I could eat these every day. But I won’t. That wouldn’t be good for my waistline. Especially considering they have about almost 6 times the butter than the regular rice crispy treats. But, hey – that’s what makes them so good!
There are two things that make these treats so unbelievably good. First, you need to brown the butter before adding the marshmallows. When you brown butter, it develops almost a nutty flavor. Be sure to watch it carefully, though. Once it starts to brown, it only takes about a minute to burn. So, as soon as you reach the brown color, add your marshmallows. The other key to the amazing flavor is the new Caramel-Vanilla marshmallows. I tried it with regular marshmallows and you just don’t get the nice caramel flavor or color.
Browned Butter Salted Caramel Rice Crispy Treats
- 2 sticks butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 10 oz. bag Caramel – Vanilla marshmallows
- 12 oz. box of rice krispies cereal (or 12 cups)
Line a 9×13 pan with parchment or waxed paper and spray lightly with cooking spray.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Cook and stir until butter turns a nice caramel color. Stir in brown sugar and salt until combined. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Stir in cereal, making sure to coat the cereal completely.
Press into the prepared pan with damp hands. Let cool and cut into squares with a serrated knife.
