I got my NIKON D40 CAMERA!!!

27 02 2008

And I think I’m in love!  I’m still learning all the ins and outs of it, but I already love it.  I’ve been reading ALOT online about learning how to use your camera in manual mode (instead of leaving it in Auto all the time) and how to take better photos.

So… Here are some pics of my kiddos that I took out in our yard a few days ago.  I know they aren’t perfect…but that’s more than likely MY fault…not the cameras!

Please give me Constructive Criticism.  Be honest…I can take it!

Today it’s snowing and the kids want to go out and make a snowman…I’ll try to get some good shots…but it’s so hard to get good shots in the snow…all that white everywhere!  We’ll see how it goes.  I’ll keep ya posted on that one.

ORGANIZATION – gotta love it!

27 02 2008

Yes, I admit…I’m a organizational freak.  Well, maybe not FREAK (that sounds kinda scary!), but I do love organization.  I love taking a messy area or room and turning into a neat and tidy area!

So, the other night at 9 pm I decided I needed to re-organize our laundry room and pantry (the two areas are basically in the same room).  I do this every few months or so.  So, here are the before pics:

First…here’s a pic of the door going into these rooms so you can kinda see how it’s laid out.  This pics is taken standing at the door, looking toward the right.  And this room is off of my kitchen:

Now…the BEFORE PICS:

Laundry Room:  The main problem was the shelving above the washer/dryer:

And the Pantry – notice the messy shelves and the junked up floor:

About an hour and a half later…look at the laundry room now:

Clean Laundry Room  I ended up throwing MOST of the junk on those shelves away!  Doesn’t it look so much better?

And here is a pic of our “cleaning bin” up close – this is the bin we carry around from room to room when doing our ‘big cleaning’.

And, I didn’t do anything to the broom/ironing board area (which is behind you as you look at the washer/dryer), but here it is anyway:

Now for the CLEAN, ORGANIZED Pantry:  Notice the CLEAN floor (except for the cooler and the kids’ stepstools)

And some closeups:

Paper Goods “area” – that’s a pot lid holder that’s supposed to be mounted inside a cabinet door that I’m using for the paper plates.

And the “Coffee Station”:

The “Snack Station” – this is on a shelf low enough that the kids can help themselves.

Up next…my new camera!

Long time, No blog! And my latest cakes

27 02 2008

I know, I know…it’s been FOREVER since I’ve blogged!  I do have lots of stuff to catch you up on though!  I’m going to post each ‘thing’ in a different post so that it won’t be one long post about a million different things.  I’ll start with my latest cakes…

This was for a baby shower this past weekend – strawberry cake covered and accented with fondant.

Baby Shower Clothesline Cake

And a wedding cake – 4 different flavors of cake:  Mandarin Orange w/ buttercream filling, White Almond with Strawberry Cheesecake filling, Triple Chocolate with Raspberry filling, and Raspberry Lace with Raspberry filling.  All covered with fondant and accented with fondant ribbons and flowers.

Red & White Wedding Cake

Okay…in the next post…ORGANIZATION!!!

OMG – I just bought a Nikon D40 camera!!

18 02 2008

I really don’t have the cash flow right this minute to do this, but I saw a GREAT deal on ebay for a Nikon d40 digital SLR camera, and talked to DH about it and he said it was okay to put it on our credit card and pay it off as I can!  I’m so excited!!!

I can’t wait to play with it….here’s a pic of it…

it also came with several “bonuses” – a second zoom lens, a carrying case, two tripods (a large and small one), a memory card, 3 lens filters, and maybe a couple other things.  I got all this for $500!!
I’ll post more scrappy stuff soon, I promise…I have just been really busy lately and haven’t had the time to do a lot in the scrap world.
Until next time…

New projects…been MIA a while…

9 02 2008

Well, I really have no excuse for not posting…just being lazy I guess.  I have done a few scrappy things lately, though and I’ll be sharing them with you at the end of this post.

One thing on my list of things to do this year is learn how to take better photos.  To do that, I’ve been scouring photography websites with tips, etc, and I’ve purchased a photography lesson CD from Johanna Peterson – great, great tips she gives on this CD, and it is easy to understand.  I can’t wait to try out all the things she talks about!    If you have a favorite photography tip, or a blog or website to share, please do!

I had a cake to do today too, and I so didn’t want to do it.  It wasn’t a big cake or a hard design, I just didn’t want to do it!  But, I forced myself…I mean, hey, I’m getting paid for this, right…gotta do it!  I just really think that I need to take a BIG break from cakes…like maybe a couple of years.  I guess we’ll just see what life has in store for me.

Now, on to the projects I’ve been into…here they are…please let me know what you think!

I actually have a few more, but I need to get pics of them…I’ll try to post them sometime over the weekend!
